Linked Double Crochet - Stitch Tutorial

Linked Double Crochet - Stitch Tutorial

The Linked Double Crochet stitch is a great way to create more structure in your work. One complaint people commonly have an issue with in crochet is how "hole-y" the work can be compared to crochet. Linking your stitches eliminates a lot of the space and creates a more solid fabric.

Here is a step by step tutorial - you can easily do this stitch either in back and forth rows or in the round.

For this tutorial I am using Zpagetthi yarn (Super Bulky) with a 10mm hook for easy viewing.

ROW 1:

  • Begin with a foundation chain.

    • Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook

    • Yarn over and pull up a loop

    • Skip the next stitch on the foundation chain and insert your hook into the next loop in the foundation chain. Yarn over and pull up a loop.
    • Yarn over. Pull through the first two loops. Yarn over and pull through the last two loops on the hook.

    • FIND THE CROSS BAR THAT APPEARS IN THE CENTER OF THE STITCH YOU JUST MADE

    • Insert your hook into this bar. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

    • Insert you hook into the next loop on the foundation chain and pull up a loop. You should have 3 loops on the hook now.

    • Yarn over. Pull through the first two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the last two loops on the hook.

      •  To begin the next stitch, insert your hook into the bar that stretches across the stitch.

      • Yarn over and pull up a loop. Insert your hook into the next loop in the foundation chain and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the last two loops on the hook.

Repeat this process down the row.

      ROW 2:

      • Chain 3 (counts as the first stitch)

      • Insert your hook in the second chain from the hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

      • Insert your hook into the next stitch in the row. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

      • Yarn over, pull through the first two loops. Yarn over and pull through the last two loops.

      • Insert your hook into the crossbar of the stitch you just made. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

      • Insert your hook into the next stitch in the row. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

      • Yarn over and pull through the first two loops. Yarn over and pull through the last two loops.

After a few rows it should look like this when working back and forth.

When working in the round it will look like this.
